Positions (2 postdoctoral fellows): systems biology, synthetic biology, bacterial engineering, food & molecular microbiology, and pathogen-gut microbiome interaction
Dr. Xiaonan Lu's Food Safety & Health Engineering Laboratory at McGill University (http://www.lu- lab-mcgill.ca/home/) invites applications for 2 Postdoctoral Fellowship positions, with an anticipated start date of 2024 winter or 2025 Summer. Both positions are located in the Department of Food Science and Agricultural Chemistry in the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (Macdonald campus). The successful candidates will execute research in the areas of systems biology, synthetic biology, bacterial engineering, food & molecular microbiology, and/or pathogen-gut microbiome interaction. These research topics are currently supported by several Canadian funding agencies to Dr. Lu and his research collaborators, such as Genome Canada, NSERC, CIHR, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, and Mitacs. Both candidates will work closely with Dr. Lu and will be involved in collaborative work with different research laboratories on McGill downtown campus, McGill Macdonald campus, Jewish General Hospital and McGill University Health Centre. The appointment will be for 2 years with the possibility of extension for two additional years.
Candidates must have a PhD in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Immunology, or a related field, and preference will be given to those with experience with cell biology, bacterial pathogenesis, bacterial genomics, and gut microbiome. Candidates with demonstrated contributions relating to CRISPR, genome sequencing, transcriptomics, metabolomics, and/or molecular manipulation are encouraged to apply. Candidates are responsible for training graduate students for the basic molecular techniques and bioinformatics tools. Postdoctoral fellows are also expected to contribute to the writing of proposals and will gain experience supervising graduate students.
